PRAXIS CORE WORKSHOPS

Realizing that the Praxis I examination is a major deterrent for many students of color who are interested in teaching, Graham conducts interactive workshops with pre-service teacher education candidates at different institutions across the United States.  A significant test score gap exists between Caucasian test takers and test takers of color.  Given this gap, Graham engages students in hands-on activities that prepare them for the Praxis I Reading and Praxis I Writing tests.  For more information on these workshops, please contact Dr. Graham using the "Contact" page.

Below are testimonials and comments from undergraduate students who have attended Graham's Praxis I workshops in the past.

Testimonials

“I never thought I would say a three-hour workshop was too short!  Dr. Graham was absolutely AWESOME!!!”

“I took the Praxis I three times and was about to change my major because I was frustrated that I couldn't pass the test.  I attended one of Dr. Graham's workshops on the reading test, and he broke everything down in a very clear way.  It finally all made sense.  I retook the test and I passed it!”

“Dr. Graham actually knows how the Praxis is set up and he tells us exactly what you need to know to prepare to take the test.”

"If you attend Dr. Graham's workshop and you don't pass the Praxis, it's because you didn't pay attention to what he shared.  Very engaging, very informative, and very straightforward."

GRANTWRITING WORKSHOPS

As a former classroom teacher and as a member of a non-profit fraternal organization, Graham realizes the importance of securing funding support from various businesses, foundations, banks, and organizations that can assist with achieving desired outcomes.  Given this reality, Dr. Graham is available to conduct grantwriting workshops for classroom teachers and members of nonprofit organizations.  These workshops are interactive and hands-on, affording attendees to exit the sessions with a working draft of a grant proposal.  For more information on these workshops, please communicate with Dr. Graham using the "Contact" area of this website.

Testimonials

“I'm a classroom teacher and I've attended grant writing sessions before.  I was skeptical before walking into this workshop, thinking I wouldn't learn much because the previous sessions have been way over my head and focused too much on big research grants and less on classroom teachers.  I wanted someone who could help me apply for grants that could help me support afterschool projects with my students.  When I left Dr. Graham's 3-hour workshop, I was so energized and motivated.  He made everything so easy to follow and understand.  Because of him, I wrote my first grant and I received $1000.00 from Target to help with an afterschool literacy program for my students!"

“I didn't expect to receive so much information tailored specifically to classroom teachers.  Dr. Graham provided us with about 50 websites for classroom teachers to find grants, and he had us complete a couple of sample applications from local foundations and banks so we could see how easy it really is to apply for a grant.”

“I walked into the room with a really rough idea of what I wanted to do and I left the room with a strong rough draft of a grant proposal.  Who knew I could learn to write a grant in a day?"

MOTIVATIONAL SPEECHES

As a public school student, Graham was average academically.  His high school grade point average was a modest 2.80 and his highest SAT verbal and math score was a 780.  Raised in a single-parent home by a mother who only had a middle school education, Graham did not come from a strong academic background.  Although he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Graham never felt he belonged at one of the top institution's in the nation, and he questioned his intelligence and ability every day.  At the conclusion of his sophomore year, Graham found himself on academic probation with a 1.83 cumulative grade point average.  He accepted that he was academically inferior to his classmates, but he could not face the reality of telling his mother or his family that he failed as a college student.  It was at that point that Graham transformed his life and the "rest is history."

It's these personal experiences as a public school student and an undergraduate at UNC that Graham engages various audiences.  He intentionally seeks opportunities to speak to African American male students of any age to help them place into perspective their academics, their cultural identities, and their lineage to leadership greatness.  Please follow up with Dr. Graham if you would like to discuss with him the possibility of speaking to your audience.

Testimonials

"Dr. Graham has this way of punching you in the stomach with his comments, taking your breath away by challenging the way you've thought and acted. Then, he uses his smile, knowledge, confidence, and humility to make you examine ways to better yourself and the world around you. He makes you want to follow him to hell and back because you truly believe you can make a difference."

“I'll never forget the 'fifth loop' activity.  That really showed me how I can make a difference in other people's lives if I take a step back and think differently about situations.  Excellent speaker!"

“It was different having someone talk TO us rather than talk AT us.  Not only was he a cool guy, but he really understood where we were coming from.”

“His story is so much like mine and all the stuff I'm dealing with in school right now ... it's good to see that you can go through a lot of challenging times but end up successful.  Because of Dr. Graham, I'm looking at my future in a different way.  I didn't think college was an option for me and wasn't going to apply but I think I will now.  It's like he said, I can't let my GPA determine how far I can go in life.  Only I can determine that."
